It will be interesting to see what actually happens in the local real estate market this time. Incidentally, I moved to DC in March of 2001 (the third of my 4 moves to DC over the last 20 years, don't ask) and can tell you that there was no energy infusion into the city during that time - not surprising what with a bunch of suburbanite Texans moving to town. Great Falls and McLean probably felt the GOP love, but in DC, not so much. This time might be very different with an influx of Chicagoans coming to town.

I'd say whoever thinks there'll be 40,000 transact...

I'd say whoever thinks there'll be 40,000 transactions simply because of an administration change is smoking whacky tobacky. From December 2000 to March 2001, about 1600 sales were recorded in the District. Since the circumstances were similar - new administration, different party - I'd say to expect a similar pattern [setting aside our current economic collapse].

What this article does tell me is that the average prices for the District will be higher thanks to the sales of higher dollar homes, which have been skewing that metric for a while now.

Welcome back!Did you see this:http://www.nytimes.c...

Welcome back!

Did you see this:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/07/fashion/07dc.html?emc=eta1

Specifically this:

“People are predicting that there are going to be 40,000 transactions,” Ms. Kennedy said.

Whaddaya think?

I returned to DC early this morning.
